My husband and I bought a house recently and are finally getting around to moving in and unpacking. I’ve never owned a home before. This is my first magical home so I’m feeling very excited. Owning a home is by far the most adultish thing I have ever done. I had no idea what it actually takes to keep up a home. I’ve learned so many things which will require a few more posts but this post is mostly about friendship.
Did you know that sometimes are closest friends and family members can be our best resources for overall home-ownership advice?
My friend Melissa Creamer and Damian’s parents have been with us through the entire process. They’ve been our homeowner’s manual from the very beginning. They’ve offered advice, guidance, and in Melissa’s case even her physical labor in order to help Damian and I to understand what it takes to not only take care of our home but make it our own. Our families don’t live near us. They actually live rather far so having them assist us is very difficult. However, even they’ve managed to help us with their advice as homeowners. As for Melissa, she’s like a sister to me and I cannot begin to express how much I appreciate her.
I’ve had other friends help as well and some family offer the best advice and assistance they can manage. I personally feel very lucky to have such wonderful people in our lives. I would have never expected half of the things that come with owning a home. It’s nice to be prepared and to have people I can rely on. In the end, it’s good to know there’s always someone you can count on.
